This documentary was made in collaboration with my sister Fairuz, a professional filmmaker.
Shot in our father's hometown in Tunisia, the film features our grandmother. Despite being adults, our inability to speak Arabic prevented us from having deep conversations with her, leaving our communication
mostly limited to the level of infants. To bridge this gap, my sister prepared a tape in which she phonetically pronounced questions that were later translated. The resulting 14-minute short film
touches on various topics in a disarmingly touching manner, honoring our grandmother in the way we knew best – by maintaining a conversation despite the language barrier. The documentary has been showcased at esteemed festivals including
the Courtisane Festival, Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, Doclisboa, Festival International du Film Ethnographique du Québec, Les Inattendus, Visite Film Festival, and the Printemps Culturel Tunisien #3 in Paris."
